Ideas For Finding the Leaks in Oil Pipes in the Ocean

This is a continuation of the last post from a student in china's papers on pressures for oil pipes.

http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ace/2010/638967.html

I'm just looking up the terminology and posting it, perhaps this will help with the oil spill problem in seeking to find where the biggest leaks are and then finding a way to curb the pressure so the oil leaking will slow down somehow in less than 3 months time.

Reading pressure in pipes - can this technology be used?

Doppler Flow Meter
Measure oil in a pipe?
http://www.flowmeterdirectory.com/flowmeter_artc/flowmeter_artc_02051301.html

    3. Some flowmeters measure in velocity (ft/sec). How can I convert the readings to volume/time?
GPM= 2.45 * (ID in inches)² * (VELOCITY in ft/sec) GPM= gallons per minute ID = inside diameter of the pipe in inches. This formula is for water—it does not consider viscosity, temperature, or pressure. However, temperature, viscosity, and pressure will not effect a doppler flow reading.

    4. What if my fluid is not water?
The speed of sound through water is approximately 1470 ft/sec. Most instruments are calibrated for that rate. Other fluids may be used, but your instrument should then be recalibrated.

    7. Does a doppler flowmeter require a minimum upstream straight pipe length?
Yes. Doppler flowmeters require ten pipe diameters from any valve, tee, bend, etc. Doppler flowmeters also require a full pipe flow.

    8. What are the advantages of using a doppler flowmeter?
—non-invasive —good for slurries, aerated liquids —portable

    9. What are the limitations of using a doppler flowmeter?
—not suitable for clean liquids —requires straight upstream piping

Mass Flowmeters

    1. How does a mass flowmeter work?
A volume of gas has a known mass at standard conditions. As pressure and temperature are applied, the volume will change, but the mass remains constant. Mass flowmeters measure flow based on the molecular mass of the gas; this measurement is independent of temperature and pressure. One technique to measure mass flow is to send a part of the flow through a sensor tube. In the tube, the gas is heated in a coil and then measured downstream. The temperature differential is directly related to the mass flow.

    2. Can a mass flowmeter give a total accumulation of gas?
Yes, most mass flowmeters have outputs of either 0-5 VDC or 4-20 mA. To monitor total accumulation, connect a totalizer/monitor with a matching input ( 0-5 VDC or 4-20 mA).

Plan a Day of Fun

Have you ever stopped to plan a day of fun for yourself?

You randomly pick things on the internet as you surf.

Let's go to a new restaurant and have a meal.

Go to whatever movie is playing first in the afternoon.

Sometimes you need to shake things up and go with something not planned.

It makes life interesting.

New Music Featured Today - Cassi Thomson, Taylor Lautner, Chromeo

I found some cool youtube videos featuring some new music and interviews with Cassi Thomson, Taylor Lautner, Mariah Carey, Chromeo and Naturi Naughton on Idea Girl Consulting Word Press.

I also posted my movie review of Fame on The Idea Girl Says.

I did a few articles on Mariam and posted whatever thoughts I had about the case this week.

I spent a lot of time in meditation and relaxing for a bit.

Working day and night, you need a break every now and then.

I did some organizing in my office and in my home and now I'll be working on my books later on this week.
It should prove to be interesting as I start on The Calamity Girl Series - My chic lit writing. :)

Book Review: Editing and Revising Text - Spooky Computer

Funny, I typed this review this morning and got a knock on my door so I did a save and continue. Answered the door, gave a tour to the landlord to the leaky tap, roof and sewer gas smell, locked the door came back to the computer and it was gone? I look at my dog, "Daisy did you delete my article?"

I couldn't accuse her of eating it (paper only). I have no idea what happened to it. It's off in cyber space. Please let me know if you find it. I shut off my computer totally frustrated (really it took me 30 minutes to write all that and couldn't remember a thing when I wanted to redo it) hopped into the car and went to Walmart.

I decided to order a Mcdonalds chicken value meal minus the mayo( ways to save a buck, ask for the southwestern sauce (reg price $8 meal for $4)), then I wandered around. Found a nice .97 cent picture frame 8.5×11.5 for my Business License, toilet paper's 4 bucks for 28 rolls (the last two) and lots of junk food ($2 doritos, 1.17 pop, 1.00 popcorn.)

I watch American Idol Tuesday and Wednesday nights and those are my junk food nights. Tonight we'll be watching WWE. Well I kind of watch it, I sit there beside my spouse and pretend to like it, meanwhile, I'm reading my books, playing on the internet on my phone (surfs away) and still spending quality time with my dog licking my hands (oh I love massages) and my boyfriend massaging my feet(prerequisite for me watching WWE with him).

One big happy family!

I've been editing my own manuscript and finally I was done! Now I pull out a few books (ahem- the other ones were published in 2002, how was I to know that in 2007, and 2009 everything had changed!) and began to read. My heart began to sink lower and my frustration levels peaked. I had just spent two days, fixing capital letters on my Mother, Father, Aunt, Uncle, Cousin you get the picture.

The new book says you DON"T capitalize them ALL the time? But in my editing book from 2000/2002, you do yell, I'm leaving it! That's it, I've had enough (oblivious to scaring my poor boyfriend and daisy). Daisy starts to bark at me, the boyfriend is yelling "quiet you two I can't hear the TV!" I'm almost in tears, really I was feeling kind of emotional this week and this was the last straw.

I took a deep breath and found the "Editing and Revising Text" in my reading pile and grabbed it. The more I read, the more I realized that my manuscript was not really finished at all. It's a book about essays, journals, article and manuscripts. It's about changing your text so it's more understandable to the reader. That hit home. I had been writing my manuscript knowing the beginning, middle and end. I had received an email that pointed out that a new reader would be LOST in my first chapter. I said, "read the rest of the book, it will clarify itself."

Now after reading the editing book, I feel like a total well you know. needless to say I wrote an apology email and told her I had revised it, and practically rewrote the whole section.(her editing basically scratched out every other word, so I really had no choice).

I guess what I am trying to say is, it's great that you are out there doing research and reading books and trying to better yourself but please be warned, if you intend to be a serious writer, you have to keep up with the times. I read the older books and the newer ones.

Each one shares a bit of insight, but when it comes to finalizing a manuscript, query letter, synopsis, outline and whatever needs to be done, you have to get the latest information and tools required to do the job right. The same goes for those lovely old dictionaries. I was all proud of myself, I went to the Book Depot and saved $12 buying a used/damaged one at the back for $2 (copyright 2004) as opposed to paying $14 for the latest edition.

I read a bit of "Grammar Girl's" book (I shall add that review as well) and found out that the Oxford Dictionary has removed some 19,000(don't quote me on that figure it could be out a few here and there) hyphenated words in 2009! Imagine that, every single word that you learned in grade school (baby boomers hello!) is no longer hyphenated.

I'm finding it harder and harder each day to be a professional writer without going bald from pulling out all my hair, to trying to pinch pennies to buy these new books(why does it have to cost 60 dollars for one book?) I'm currently turning to my local library.

The latest editions are in the reference section. Oh yeah, I get to fight with the rest of the writers in the Niagara Region over one book. Also I am not about to write down every single name, address etc. Good News! Some of the books are being awesome by providing the update news in one section. This way you can actually buy the older book or take it out of the library and just review the companies that your planning to send stuff to and check if the address is the same. Also it's a good idea to call them and verify if the address is correct in the phone book.

In this day and age with so much downsizing and restructuring, I wouldn't be surprised if offices were moving to more affordable digs.I'm recommending this book to students, writers and publishers.

It has many words of wisdom in it and also you might want to take a look at some of the other "writers" books that I've mentioned in the past few days. Last of all, Remember we must take Joy in our editing and when we finally get a big pay check, we can then afford to hire someone to do it for us. *bright thought of the day*

Self-Help Videos on You Tube

Yesterday I was surfing the net and looking up various topics on self-help, depression, lymphatic massage and rejection and found all sorts of great videos about them.  I added each of them to my play list under various categories, I plan to go back and listen to them.  I like creating a play list then laying back on the couch with my Itech headphones on and listening for 30 minutes to an hour about sales techniques, positive thinking, meditation or energy meditations.  Each day is different and I want to learn something new everyday.  I always take time on a Friday, Sunday or a Monday to do research on any given topic.  Today I had some lunch and took a look at the Standard.  It was talking about a new green team editorial piece that posts weekly articles.  I'm thinking that I should write articles and submit them to my own paper and see what happens.  You never know, I might tap into an unknown market and help educate people about something they don't know too much about.  It took me over 4 hours to find all those videos and some people just don't have that kind of time.  To create a helpful and useful play list was my goal.  You can view the play list at:

Idea Girl Happy Mothers Day!

It's time for Mothers Day and your looking for gift ideas
Here is a site that has activities for the whole family, craft
ideas, games, projects, gift ideas for mom even recipes to make that special dinner for her.

Submitted a few articles to Ezines

I'm still waiting to hear from Ezines, I guess without a Main website I feel kind of lost.  I should actually start working on my novel again.  I have written a bit of dialogue that needs to be typed (100 pages) and integrated into the novel.  I might have to add more chapters though!

The Mansion on the Hill – A letter from the Author

The Story and characters are completely fictional in “The Mansion on the Hill.” The names I chose were from a French Baby Name Book and I developed my characters as I saw them in my mind. These are not real people but it may seem real if you use your imagination, as I have.

You can Google some of the names for fun and they actually exist. So do the Places I picked. Please note that I wrote this story as pure fiction. I wasn’t’ aware until afterwards, that such a place really did exist!

I’m wondering if I’ve written from a past life experience or something? It was a fun experience nonetheless and it gave me the hope of becoming a great author.

I’ve tried to be as imaginative as JK Rowling. I’ve used historical facts, as Barbara Cartland did in her books and I’ve been as adventurous as Johanna Lindsay. I used to read all the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books so that’s where I got the Mystery ideas. I compare my works to theirs for they wrote stories about people and it touched our hearts and souls.

When I went to Shaw Festival in the summer of 2008, I had the pleasure of seeing “An Inspector Calls.” I was delighted to find out it had been written in the early 1900’s and that it referred to the theory of “Six Degrees of Separation.”

“The Mansion on the Hill”, also celebrates this theory as well. For as you read about several families and how they are all connected to one another through several generations, you will see a pattern. Everything we say and do to another causes the “domino” effect.

When the thought of “Karma” comes to mind, we assume the biblical passage of “What a Man sows, he reaps.”

You will get a chance to watch how the lives of these Fictional Characters change when you put them into different environments. You will see dramatic changes in their personality. In some cases the Character learns from the lesson in life, while others perish for they did not follow any “God” given instincts.

It’s a story about Good vs. Evil and how people have secrets and how those secrets can destroy their lives within a moment of being revealed.

The mystery and romance will tug at our emotions and make you think that you are there in the story as a bystander. One who listens and watches with interest but cannot speak. Hopefully you will learn something as you watch the characters evolve and learn truths about themselves and others surrounding them.

Moving my articles from Today

Since my Today.com site is shut down, I am moving my articles into my wordpress account, just in case they try and delete all my hard work!  I should have kept a list of the things I wrote, so I could bring them up and copy and paste them.  Oh well, I shall try and be more organized in the future!

Today.com is a sham!

I can no longer blog on Today.com simply because I decided to share some of my emails with the world, from MP Preston Manning and Green Chip Stocks Emails with reports on Investments with the world.  They say I've been spamming?  Not so, I don't even know what it means to "spam."

so my sites http://ideasaboutlife.today.com  and http://theideagirl.today.com have been shut down.  I'll be making new sites elsewhere and learn from my mistakes!

cheers!
